Before you choose

What you need to know about this experience

A Teide dinner and stargazing experience combines a dinner, usually of Canarian food, with a guided astronomy session in or near Teide National Park. It usually includes transport, the sunset and several telescopes.

Dinner changes how the evening is divided up: where you eat, at what time and how much time is left afterwards to look at the sky. This page helps you compare these formats and check what matters before requesting information.

At a glance

Aspect What to expect
What it is Dinner + guided stargazing, usually with sunset
Where you eat At a restaurant at mid-altitude, at the cable car base station or at the Parador de Las Cañadas. Depends on the provider
Total duration About 6.5 hours in the offers reviewed with pick-up
Observation With telescopes and a laser pointer, above 2,000 m
Transport Included in most offers with dinner
Diets and allergies Depends on the restaurant; mention it when you request information
Cold Important: the observation takes place after dinner, once it is dark
Price Depends on the provider, the type of dinner and whether the cable car is included

How the evening is organised

The most common order is:

  1. Pick-up in the mid-afternoon.
  2. Sunset from a viewpoint in the park or on the way up.
  3. Dinner, before or after it gets fully dark.
  4. Stargazing with telescopes and an explanation of the sky.
  5. Return to the pick-up area.

Because dinner takes time, the observation is usually shorter than in a stargazing-only session. Ask how long each part lasts.

Where you eat: three formats

Format How it works What to consider
Restaurant on the way up Canarian dinner at a mid-altitude restaurant, sometimes with the sunset over the sea of clouds; then you go up to stargaze Pleasant atmosphere and a hot meal; the observation starts later
Cable car base station Dinner at the base station restaurant, at 2,356 m, as part of an excursion that includes a sunset cable car ride Everything happens in the park; the cable car restrictions apply
Parador de Las Cañadas Dinner at the Parador, inside the national park, added to an observation session A quiet setting with no travel between dinner and stargazing

Some sunset and stargazing excursions also include a picnic. If a simple dinner is enough for you, see Teide sunset and stargazing.

Who it suits

  • Couples looking for a special evening without organising anything.
  • Groups of friends or families with older children.
  • People who want to combine local food and the night sky on one trip.
  • Anyone who does not want to eat late on the coast after getting back from Teide.

Who it may not suit, and what to weigh up

  • Anyone who wants as much observation time as possible: a session focused on the sky makes better use of the night. See stargazing in Tenerife.
  • People with allergies or strict diets: check the menu beforehand and whether it can be adapted.
  • Young children: the activity finishes late and some providers set a minimum age.
  • If the excursion includes the cable car: pregnant women, children under 3 and people with cardiovascular problems or reduced physical or motor mobility cannot ride.

How to choose well

  1. Where exactly do you eat, and what is on the menu?
  2. Are drinks included? Which ones?
  3. Can the menu be adapted for allergies, vegetarians, vegans or gluten-free diets?
  4. How long does the observation last after dinner?
  5. How many telescopes, and how many people per guide?
  6. Do they lend warm clothing? Some offers include it.
  7. What happens if it is cloudy? Is the price refunded, only the observation part, or nothing?
  8. What is the cancellation policy?

What is usually included and what to check

Item Usual practice Check
Transport Included Pick-up area
Dinner Included Menu, drinks and adaptations
Sunset Included in many offers From where
Guide and telescopes Included Number of telescopes
Warm clothing In some offers Sizes
Cable car Only in some versions Plan B if it closes
Toast or glass of wine In some offers Alcohol-free alternative

Safety and health

  • Cold after dinner: you go from a warm dining room to the open air above 2,000 metres. Bring layers.
  • Alcohol and altitude: if the offer includes wine or cava, drink in moderation: at high altitude it can affect you more.
  • Altitudee: if you have heart or breathing problems, consult your doctor.
  • Allergies: inform them in writing, not just verbally on the day.

Weather and the Moon

  • Cloud, calima or wind can prevent the observation even though dinner goes ahead. Ask how refunds are handled in that case.
  • Full Moon: fewer faint stars, but the Moon through a telescope is very striking.
  • New Moon: better for the Milky Way and the deep sky.

Price: what it depends on

We do not give a reference figure: the offers reviewed combine dinner, cable car, drinks and transport in different ways.

The price depends on:

  • The type of dinner: picnic, Canarian set menu at a restaurant or dinner at the Parador.
  • Whether a sunset cable car ride is included.
  • Drinks included.
  • Group size and pick-up area.

What to bring

  • Warm layers, a hat and gloves.
  • Closed shoes.
  • Allergy medication, if you need it.
  • ID if there is a minimum age or a child rate.

Frequently asked questions

Where do you eat?

It depends on the provider: at a mid-altitude restaurant on the way up, at the cable car base station restaurant or at the Parador de Las Cañadas.

Is the dinner Canarian?

In the offers reviewed it is usually Canarian food. Ask for the menu before booking.

Can the menu be adapted for allergies or diets?

It depends on the restaurant. Mention it when you request information and confirm it in writing.

How long do you spend looking at the sky?

Less than in a stargazing-only session, because dinner takes up part of the evening. Ask about the exact duration.

What happens if it is cloudy?

Dinner goes ahead anyway. Ask whether the observation part is refunded.

Is it a good option for a couple?

Yes, it is one of the formats most often chosen by couples. If you want something more personal, the private format lets you choose the time and place.

Can children come?

It depends on the provider’s minimum age and the return time.
