What you need to know about this experience

A La Laguna excursion with a winery visit combines, on the same day and with transport, a tour of the historic centre of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a World Heritage city, and a visit with a tasting at a winery in the north of Tenerife, usually in the Tacoronte-Acentejo wine region.

The two visits are close to each other, so you can spend time at each one without spending the day on the road. This page helps you know what to expect and what to check.

Why combine La Laguna and wine

La Laguna lies within the area of the Tacoronte-Acentejo denomination of origin, the first in the Canary Islands and the one with the largest vineyard area in Tenerife. Many wineries in this region are a short distance from the historic centre, in towns such as Tacoronte, El Sauzal or La Matanza.

That makes it a practical combination: urban culture in the morning and wine at midday or in the afternoon, without long journeys.

What happens

  1. Pick-up in your area.
  2. Guided walk through La Laguna’s historic centre: Plaza del Adelantado, the streets of the original layout, the cathedral, the Iglesia de la Concepción and historic houses.
  3. Transfer to the winery in the Tacoronte-Acentejo region.
  4. Visit and tasting of several wines, sometimes with local produce.
  5. Food, if included.
  6. Return.

Some routes add a stop at the Casa del Vino de Tenerife in El Sauzal.
