Before you choose
What you need to know about this experience
A full-day Tenerife tour is a shared coach or minibus trip with a guide that covers several parts of the island in one day: usually Teide National Park and the towns of the north and north-west, or a loop along the coast. It lasts about 8 or 9 hours and leaves early.
It is the cheapest way to get a general idea of the island without a car. The trade-off is that each stop is short. This page helps you choose the route that suits you and know what pace to expect.

The two most common routes
Grand tour: Teide, Icod, Garachico and Masca
It climbs from the south via Vilaflor to Teide National Park, descends to the north via Icod de los Vinos, with its ancient dragon tree, continues to Garachico, a town shaped by the 1706 eruption, and passes through Masca in the Teno massif before heading back. From the north, some operators do the route in reverse.
Round the island along the coast
It covers the coast and towns: Los Gigantes, Icod, Garachico, La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz and Candelaria, depending on the offer. Less high mountain and more urban heritage. One of the offers reviewed only runs two days a week.
| Route | Suits you if… | Bear in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Grand tour | You want to see Teide and the north-west in one day | Many bends; access to Masca is regulated |
| Coastal loop | You prefer towns and heritage | Less volcanic scenery |
What happens
- Pick-up early at a hotel or meeting point. On some offers there is a change of coach.
- Short stops in each area, with the guide’s commentary on the way.
- Food in a restaurant area, usually at your own expense.
- Return in the early evening.
There are many stops, and the time at each is limited. If you want to explore one area in depth, choose a dedicated excursion.
Masca: check the access
The Masca road (TF-436) is narrow. Since May 2025, buses longer than 10 metres have been banned from using it, and since 30 July 2026 the Cabildo has been running access controls during periods of wildfire risk. Ask whether your excursion enters the hamlet or only stops at a viewpoint.
Who it suits
- Travellers without a car who want an overview of the island.
- First-time visitors with little time.
- Solo travellers or couples looking for a reasonable price per person.
Who it may not suit, and what to weigh up
- Anyone who wants time in each place: the stops are short.
- Anyone prone to motion sickness: the route combines several mountain roads.
- Families with young children: it is a long day on a coach.
- Wheelchair users: many departures are not accessible.
- Anyone who wants to set their own pace: see the tailor-made private tour.
How to choose well
- What exactly is the route, and in what order?
- How much time is there at each stop? Especially on Teide.
- Is there a change of coach after pick-up?
- Does it enter Masca, or only go to the viewpoint?
- On which days does it leave from your area?
- What language is your departure in? Some guides switch between several languages.
- Where do you eat, and how much time is there?
- Cancellation policy? In the offers reviewed, free up to 24 hours before.

- Altitudee: if the route goes up to Teide, you go above 2,000 metres.
- Comfortable shoes for the stops on foot.
- Motion sickness: sit at the front if you can and take your usual precautions.
Weather and time of year
- In a single day you can go from the heat of the coast to the cold of Teide and the clouds of the north. Dress in layers.
- In winter, snow can change the route through the national park.
- In summer, wildfire alerts may restrict access to natural areas.
Price: what it depends on
We do not give a reference figure: most offers are sold through intermediaries and there are not enough directly comparable prices.
The price per person depends on:
- The route and its duration.
- The pick-up area.
- Group size: large coach or minibus.
- Whether a meal is included.
What to bring
- Layers of clothing and a jacket.
- Comfortable shoes.
- Sun protection.
- Water and a snack for the journey.
- Motion sickness remedy, if you need one.
