Puerto de la Cruz is a convenient base for discovering the north of Tenerife at a different pace from the big resorts in the south. From here, La Orotava, the farming landscapes, the wineries, Teide and much of the north coast are well connected.
Routes around the north
A north of Tenerife excursion can include several villages and viewpoints, but there is no one-size-fits-all combination. La Orotava deserves time on foot; Garachico and the Isla Baja fit better on another route; La Laguna and Anaga work well together.
If wine is your main interest, compare a winery visit with tasting, a wine route or a food experience. Always check whether transport is included: it is essential when there is tasting.
Teide from Puerto de la Cruz
Going up Teide from the north lets you see how the vegetation changes with altitude. You can consider a shared excursion or a private tour. If the cable car is a priority, the time slot should shape the rest of the route.
Anaga, Masca or the coast: what to choose
- Anaga: forest and trails; set aside a full day if you want to walk.
- Masca and Garachico: north-western landscapes, winding roads and historic stops.
- Sea: check the departure port, as many whale watching trips leave from the south-west and require a transfer.
- Parks: check tickets, opening times and transport before building the day around the visit.
A route adapted to your accommodation
The north rewards planning by area. A guide or a well-filtered proposal avoids crossing the island several times and can respond better to the weather. Tell us how much you want to drive and which landscape is your priority.
